The Great Quest

The Great Quest (In 3 Colors), 2006.  Worm trails at the bottom of a drying mud puddle. White stoneware stained with local (mud puddle) clay and metal oxides.  Each piece  7″ h x 9.5″ w.

Happenings and processes in the natural environment sometimes lend themselves to capture using my Clay Camera®. technique.  To capture the finest and most deicate phenomena, I use dental alginate to make an initial mold, then render it in plaster  for use as a mold for clay.  Color is usually achieved with locally found clays or mineral deposits.
